Caspian (aslo known as Persian, Afghan, Central Asian, Caucasian, Hyrcanian, Turanian, Mazandaran, Balkash, Anatolian, or Mesopotamian) Tigers (Panthera tigris virgata) are one of the nine types of tigers. It inhabited sparse forests and riverine corridors of eastern Turkey, Mesopotamia, the Caucasus around the Caspian Sea through Central Asia to northern Afghanistan and Xinjiang in western China. However, in the 1970s, they became extinct due to human causes.
